July Mixer with Gini Pupo-Walker

Welcome to our July Mixer with Gini Pupo-Walker!

Gini grew up in a bicultural household in Nashville with a mom from Springfield, TN and a dad from Cuba. As an educator for all of her adult life –  in Seattle, San Diego and then back home in Nashville – she has spent much of her career supporting Latino students and their families. She has done so through teaching, advocacy, and invaluable partnerships.

Her work at Conexión Américas is to expand educational opportunity and success for Latino students locally and statewide. She builds upon the strong reputation of Conexión Américas as a respected convener and collaborator, and has continued –and accelerated– our trajectory of growth in the education arena. She oversees all aspects of our school-based programs both in Nashville and across the state through our Migrant Education Program. She also leads the Tennessee Educational Equity Coalition, which is comprised of key civil rights and education groups, both locally and statewide, to develop a common education policy agenda and action plan that improves outcomes for students of color across Tennessee.

Gini also serves on the School Board of Metro Nashville Public Schools. She is breaking ground as the first Latino/a school board member in the state of Tennessee, and she takes the role seriously, often drawing from the aspirations and voices of families that we serve at Conexion Americas in her work as a policymaker.

Conexion Next is Nashville's newest emerging leader network that dedicates its work to promote the vision and mission of Conexión Américas, a non-profit that is building a welcoming community and creating opportunities where Latino families can belong, contribute and succeed.
